So you’ve got your degree in an area of interest but now what? Many graduates are unsure of what exactly they can pursue once they have gotten their degree. Sometimes we think of the most popular options and forget there is a plethora of routes to take after obtaining ones degree. Here are some options to think of on your new journey!

Chemistry Degree

  • Chemist– working on scientific experiments and formulating ingredients for various companies (example: cosmetic chemist)
  • Pharmaceutical Scientist– helps develop, formulate, and test drugs in a pharmaceutical lab or for a company
  • Quality Control/Quality Assurance Specialist– ensure that products meet regulatory standards, and quality requirements.
  • Chemical Engineer– use of chemistry, physics, and engineering to design, develop, and optimize processes for manufacturing chemicals, materials, pharmaceuticals, and energy sources
  • Science Professor– teaching what was learned to future chemists

Business Degree

  • Accountant– preparing and examining financial records for businesses to make important decisions
  • Financial Analyst– help businesses with investment decisions by researching their financial performance, analyzing current market trends, and providing recommendations
  • Marketing Manager-manages marketing team by helping develop campaigns, analyzing trends, and implementing strategies used and developing marketing department
  • Human Resources-oversees hiring, recruiting, and issues that may arise within a workforce
  • Entrepreneur– creation of ones own business and startups
  • Financial Planner/Advisor-helps individuals and/or businesses manage their finances, plan for retirement, and invest wisely,in order to achieve their financial goals.

Social Work Degree

  • Licensed Clinical Social Worker– provides therapy to individuals and works on mental health issues with clients through counseling
  • School Social Worker– works with students in a school setting to navigate through high school, get ready for college, and counsel on behavior and mental health needs.
  • Substance Abuse Counselor-deals with those struggling with addiction and drug abuse and helping them mentally and emotionally navigate through their mental health and structuring plans around breaking addiction
  • Community Outreach Coordinator– working with non profit and advocacy groups to raise awareness about certain issues in specific communities and how to combat these issues through organizing and initiatives
  • Policy Analyst/Advocate– research policies and break down systemic inequalities by advocating for legal reform and bringing awareness to these inequalities to the public

Mathematics Degree

  • Actuary– works with insurance firms, businesses, financial instutions, etc. to design insurance and pension plans and help evaluate risks
  • Statistician– design experiments, conduct surveys, and analyze data to produce and evaluate data
  • Quantitative Analyst-involved with the development and implementation of algorithms and mathematical or statistical models
  • Research Scientist– conduct theoretical or applied research in academic institutions, government agencies, or private research organizations.
